This isn't another something that needs to be learned. In fact, you can already do it with your eyes closed! It "simply" (!) involves switching off your thinking mind and allowing your body to move intuitively. Outwardly it may resemble other dance forms, like somatic movement, but for me the beauty - and perhaps the uniqueness - lies in the guidance from deep within. We create the space to feel ourselves in the present moment and to listen to our soul speaking to us through our heart. Let me take you on the journey that led me here, in the hope that it inspires you to explore this movement for yourself.
My journey with ecstatic dance opened the door to expressing myself freely through movement. Whilst I love structured dance and choreography, at this time in my life I feel a strong pull towards something more personal, something I can practice daily and explore independently, in my own space, on my own terms.

Having practiced various forms of yoga for many years, I feel at home on the mat, familiar with asanas and flowing sequences. In recent years, however, I couldn't motivate myself to go to yoga studios to join classes and so I decided to roll out my mat at home. I curated a playlist of heart-opening music, and from the outset I found myself weaving elements of dance and free movement into my yoga practice, as well. I know I've found something special because I can hardly wait to step onto my mat each morning and lose myself in intuitive movement.
I light a candle on the floor in front of me, as the first song on the playlist emerges. Standing on my mat, eyes closed, I pull inwards, backwards, and sink into myself to be in the here and now, to reach the "I am" of me - my true self. I allow the sound to vibrate through me, my ear sometimes tuning into a message emanating from beautiful voices. I imagine (= image in) a warm light in and around my body that begins to move with the music. I allow my body to move: swaying, rising, expanding, contracting, smiling, crying, allowing that which emerges. In my movement I actively release thoughts and emotions that don't serve me - reminding my mind that it can be still because my soul is in charge. I invite light, gratitude and love inside, filling space that has been cleared. In the privacy of my own space, I can fully let go, free from expectation or judgement, to move and feel my self in each moment.
This experience will transform you, no matter how much time you have or how you are feeling beforehand. Your mind may try to convince you that "now is not the right time", or "other things are more pressing", but learn to see through the trickery of the mind, and push these thoughts aside. Allow your soul to take the driving seat, fall into acceptance of what is, and feel the eternity of the present moment. Intuitive movement is moving meditation. The experience is the same, yet different every time and it will continue to unfold, deepen, and inspire you.
