In the heart space

Most of us grow up believing that we are our body and our thinking mind. We "are" who we present to the world and who we see in the mirror, and our thoughts revolve around: "what food should I eat?"; "I should do more exercise"; "what clothes suit me?" I need to get rid of this pain"; "you're looking well". We manage our lives primarily from the head: analysing, planning, worrying, fixing, and striving to become someone.
At some point though, often quietly and unexpectedly, a different question arises: What if this is not who I truly am?
When we pause and look more closely at our own experience, something simple and undeniable reveals itself. Thoughts move through us. Sensations arise and fade. Emotions shift and change. At the same time, something remains constant. There is an aware presence that notices all of this. That noticing is always here. It is steady, timeless, and unchanged by what it observes. This is something that can be felt and recognised directly. It is present in every human being, whether we have words for it or not. It is what we are before thoughts, emotions, and stories form around us.
From here, a deeper understanding unfolds. The body and the mind are in fact experienced within awareness. They are essential parts of being human and allow us to engage with life, relate, learn, and grow. Awareness itself is the ground in which all of this takes place. It is the deeper identity beneath form and thought.
The self we experience as “me” is an individuated expression of this awareness. You could call it the soul, or simply consciousness expressing itself in a unique way. It is intimately connected with the whole, while experiencing life from a particular perspective. Through this self, awareness lives a human life.
When we are born into this life, we forget our true nature. And as life unfolds we become absorbed in form, in stories, in roles, in success and failure, in joy and suffering. And yet life continually offers opportunities to remember. Sometimes this happens gently, through moments of beauty, connection, or love. Sometimes it happens more intensely, through loss, illness, or pain. Both joy and suffering have the capacity to turn us inward.
Once we start remembering who we truly are, we begin our journey back to awareness, and the answers we seek lie in the heart space, the felt centre of being. A place of stillness, openness, and quiet listening. Here, experience is no longer filtered through thought. It is sensed directly. In the heart space, our true nature becomes apparent.
From this recognition, life begins to reorganise naturally. Listening becomes deeper. Sensitivity to what feels aligned grows clearer. Honesty arises more easily, because living out of sync with ourselves feels increasingly uncomfortable. Choices begin to come from clarity rather than fear. Courage takes on a quieter, steadier quality.
This is how the soul path unfolds. It reveals itself as a lived expression of truth. Each moment of listening, each honest choice, each step taken from inner alignment forms the path.
Over time, it becomes clear that there is far more to the heart than meets the eye. The heart is not only an organ; it is a living centre of awareness. It functions like a vortex, a portal, a deeply personal gateway into deeper levels of our own being. The heart space is our own inner path inward. It exists quietly within us, patiently waiting for us to slow down, to listen, and to recognise our true nature. When that recognition begins to dawn, the heart is already there, ready to guide us.
As attention rests more often in the heart space, something subtle but profound happens. The heart opens and expands. It begins to communicate through felt knowing, resonance, and gentle guidance. We are drawn inwards, into the rich and vast inner landscape that has always been present. This inner journey can feel deeply alive, even magical at times. It leads us into greater intimacy with ourselves, into deeper peace, clarity, and a quiet joy that is not dependent on circumstances. With continued listening, the heart becomes a trusted guide, leading us toward freedom, authenticity, and inner liberation.
And all of it begins simply, by bringing our attention home. Into the heart space.
